It is unacceptable that
- Problems of high maternal deaths and severe disease in Black and Asian women persist today, with unchanging rates since 2014.
- 1 in 9 pregnancy-associated deaths are due to severe or intersectional disadvantages. The evidence shows that these disadvantages are principally owed to a combination of mental ill health and social factors.
- At the intersection between poor perinatal mental health and complex social needs, clinicians still require solutions that can facilitate proactive intervention, preventing future maternal adversity and deaths.
